Effective with the release of Secrets of Strixhaven for Magic the Gathering (MTG)!
“We've made a small change to how Sagas work. The mechanism that adds lore counters to Sagas now better matches planeswalkers and battles. Specifically, we've made the ability that causes Sagas to enter with lore counters on them an intrinsic ability. We did the same for the ability that allows the controller of Sagas with read ahead to choose a number of lore counters. This makes some interactions more intuitive: Doubling Season will now double the number of lore counters a Saga enters with. Urza's Saga will now enter with zero lore counters instead of one while Blood Moon is on the battlefield.”

Notably, this DOES increase the value of MTG Commander Staple: Doubling Season, which was once a $100 minimum card, but thanks to a plethora of reprints (Commander Masters, Wilds of Eldraine, Foundations, TMNT), its cheapest option now sits at a reasonable $25.

Will this push the value back up? Speculation, but I doubt it. There aren’t that many Saga focused Commander decks outside of Tom Bombadil. EDHREC shows a total of 4,246 such decks, with Narci, Fable Singer in second place at 1,449 decks. The drop-off after that is under 1,000 decks for any other Saga-specific commanders.
An interesting change, but one that does make MTG Sagas feel more consistent with the aforementioned cards that function this way.

P.S. Don't forget to load up on some MTG accessories while your at it.
